Jason was speaking when an iris message flashed in front of him. When he reached out to touch it, Hades’ head showed up and he said, “Hey, you guessed it—I’m your father.” This made Jason scream, stagger backward, and cry out, “HOLY SHIT!” The iris message vanished, and the Hades symbol materialized above Jason’s head. “You sound surprised, Jason,” Ky remarked, chuckling once again. Jason gave Ky a quick glance before exclaiming, “Yeah, I’m surprised! The god of death, Hades, suddenly materialized in front of me in a hologram and claimed me!”. “I’ve just been using context clues this whole time, like, for example, my hair can turn into fire,” Ky remarked with a finger raised. “Example two: you can bliming raise the dead!” He extended a second finger.

Jason cast a sidelong glance. “So? It surprised me that he verbally claimed me.” “Fair point.” Sighing and glancing away for a moment, Ky remarked, “I think I’ll head to the nurse or whatever after all,” before finally getting up and grabbing a stick. Without noticing Ky’s strange demeanor, Jason answered, “Okay, you do that. ” Before saying “bye,” Nova grinned sadly. She was disappointed that she hadn’t been chosen yet. Ky was limping as he made his way toward the medical area, despite having grabbed a stick to assist him. “Get there safely, Ky!” cried Nova as she hurried to her cabin. “No promises!” Ky shot back and fell, inevitably, into a bush. Hearing Ky’s reply and his tumble into a bush, Nova chuckled and muttered under her breath, “Idiot.” Jason chased after Ky and exclaimed, “Ky, you’re such a moron—you can’t even go to the infirmary without getting hurt!” “I’m doing fine! Really!… Maybe…” Ky mumbled before attempting to crawl away but unable to get off the ground. “If you’re pissed off about me being verbally claimed, switch my lives,” Jason groaned. “Okay, I understood half of that,” Ky said, narrowing his eyes in confusion. ” I believe that when I fell, I might have struck my head.” Ky started bleeding from his nose. Jason gave him a headshake. Since she was the only person in the cabin, Nova closed the door as soon as she got there and pouted on her bed. Jason assisted Ky in getting to the clinic. Ky was given bandages when he arrived at the infirmary, and the nurse promptly put him to sleep on one of the beds. Jason started chatting with the other Hades children as soon as he left the infirmary and made his way back to the Hades cabin. After letting out a sigh, Nova retired to her bed, exhausted from her previous use of her powers. When Ky woke up, he grinned, slipped by the nurse, and started to go toward the Hades cabin. Nova awoke with a headache as well. After chatting with the other Hades children, Jason collapsed onto the couch in the Hades cabin. With nothing else to do, Nova entered the Hades cabin. Still wearing bandages, Ky raced into the cabin and settled himself on the couch next to Jason. Jason awoke from his slumber and said, “Hello, Ky,” staring up at Ky. He looked down at them and said, “Oh, hey Jason! Also, I found this on the doorstep of the cabin; it looks…” Ky paused, pulling out a tinted pink envelope sealed-

–name?” Ky queried. “Shade,” Jason answered back. “Aw cute name.” Nova had crept back nearer to the two. “Yeah, my pet and Ky’s are monsters; I guess you can call it cute,” said Jason, rolling their eyes. Eliza purred gently as Ky gave her a scratch on the head, saying, “Well, Eliza is a cute little albino manticore cub.” “If you think monsters are cute, then yeah,” grinned Jason. “Well, my dads think Eliza is adorable!” Ky said, setting the manticore back down. Eliza approached Jason. Jason stroked the manticore cub’s head and said, “Well, my sister and parents are both dead, so yeah.” “I have a shadow cat with some kind of power, but they express it differently every day, so I never know what the power is called,” Nova said, obviously out of breath for no apparent reason. Jason questioned, “Why are you out of breath?” Ky said, “I have the same question,” glancing at Nova. With a small head tilt, Jason asked, “Did you run?” Ky was unaware that the emblem of Hades had suddenly materialized above his head.

Nova responded to the two’s query. “Not exactly; it’s just the Apollo kids make me gag, and it makes me hot; don’t ask why they just do.” . “It might be because they are the offspring of the sun god,” Ky said humorously, smiling. “Also, is my hair on fire again? because something doesn’t feel quite right.” Jason pointed to a sign above Ky’s head and said, “Uh no, but there’s a sign over your head.” “Huh really?” Ky said, glancing above his head. Nova grinned and said, “Maybe you’re right, and aww, you were chosen.” “Cool!” Excited, Ky exclaimed, his hair once more going purple and fiery. “I want to be claimed!” Jason voiced their annoyance. Ky laughed at Jason’s complaining. “You’re going to be… Eventually, I’m bored, too, so you’re it!” Ky poked Jason on the shoulder. Jason said, “Bull crap!” and turned to face Nova. Ky had started to rush off, shouting, “Just tag Nova!” “Let’s not do that!” Nova exclaimed, looking a little alarmed. She summoned some stars, and they began to materialize all around her. In an attempt to avoid being tagged by Jason, Ky attempted to climb a tree, but he slipped and fell, striking his head. “Ow.” “Are you okay?” Nova said, using some of the stars she had formed to assist him. “Yes, absolutely,” Ky said, but as soon as he saw he had a black eye and a bloody nose, he started to laugh nervously and said, “I don’t think the ground likes me though.” Nova made the stars that she had previously made surround her disappear, and she ran over to Ky. “You sure? You’re actually bleeding.” . “Oh!” Ky exclaimed. ” That’s not good, then.” Just before he tried to stand up, he fell instantly . The person who had previously controlled Ky’s emotions had built an army of dreamdust platypus in the main pavilion, and rain caused them to ballroom dance with one another as rain watched. “I am not playing tag,” declared Jason as he sat down. They then called forth a skeleton and used it to play with rocks, paper, and scissors. Ky laughed at Jason’s slight stubbornness, saying, “You’re just mad that I got picked and you haven’t yet.” After giving it some thought, Jason said, “I can summon the dead; that’s something Hades’ children can do,” they said after taking a quick glance at Ky.

Jason winced slightly at the loud noise. “Cheerful, we have a god running camp.”. Ky turned to face Jason, asking, “Which god?” “Dionysus,” replied Jason. “He just said that he’s the god of wine, but he is stuck with diet coke because he got banned from drinking wine.” . “Wait, if he’s the god of wine, how did he get banned from drinking it?” Ky said, looking perplexed for a moment. “He offended Zeus by persuing a nymph that was off limits,” Jason stated. “Of course he did, and what else did he do? Drink some sacred wine,” Nova said with a small giggle. “Absolutely hilarious.”. Jason spoke out as he felt Mr. D’s stare cutting right through them. “All wine is sacred to him; do not shut up; he’s glaring at us,” Jason added. “Fine.” Ky expressed a minor annoyance that the amusing exchange had ended. “Welcome to camp.” Mr. D went on to say, “During the choosing ceremony, one of your parents will claim you when the time is convenient for them.”. Without realizing that his hair had once again turned purple, Ky grinned broadly and exclaimed, “Epic!” Jason laughed at Ky. “Your hairs fire again, Ky, and you do realize having a god running camp is terrifying.” . Jason’s smirk persisted on their faces as they said, “He could strike us whenever. “I know, I know,” Ky said, causing his hair to return to its usual state. “Cool, but I can’t deny that he scares me,” Nova smirked. “Who scares you, Nova? ” asked Jason, glancing at Nova. “Wine god and satyr,” declared Nova. Jason rolled their eyes and said, “Chiron is a centuar, not a satyr.” “The centuar I don’t know much about, but the wine god seems epic! ” Ky laughed. “Also, I’m still curious about the whole capture the flag thing.” Nova said, “Same, and my bad because I have no idea how to tell the difference.” Ky replied, “Oh, it’s simple: a centuar is a horse, and a satyr is a goat.” “Satyr equals half human, half goat, and a centuar equals half human, half horse,” added Jason. “Basically, I made things simpler. They’re glaring at us again, guys .” With a hesitant laugh, Ky moved behind Jason by taking a step. Jason gave Ky a pat on the head and turned to face Mr. D. After saying, “You’ll live,” Jason made the “sup” gesture with their heads. Ky giggled. “You were just freaking out about them glaring at us a few seconds ago.”. “Bullshit, I wasn’t!” smiled Jason. “Yes, of course.” Ky smiled as well. “And just a brief inquiry. Can I bring my pet to this camp?” “Definatly a good question,” said Nova. “And yeah, you did. I wish they would stop glaring at us.” She took a tiny step backward. “I think pets are allowed; some guy named Percy had a hellhound,” replied Jason. Sighing, Ky said, “Well, that’s good, because I may have snuck in a pet.” Then he smiled. Jason said “cool” after smiling. “Yes, and I snuck mine in too, but it’s pretty basic,” Nova said, turning to go after giving them a quick glance. “I’m going to go talk to Apollo Cabin’s members and see if I can make them mad,” she said. Ky said, “Okay,” and then he moved to approach a bush. Just then, an albino manticore cub leaped out at Ky, knocking him to the ground. “Calm down, Eliza,” Ky chuckled. “You idiot!” “What am I saying, I have a hellhound?” Jason sighed. “Those things usually try to kill demis usually.” “Eliza’s just a baby, though, plus if anyone tries to hurt me, my family, or my friends, I can sic Eliza on ’em,” said Ky as he got up to pick up the manticore cub. “I still prefer hellhounds,” grinned Jason. “What’s your hellhound’s-

–“Stealing again? I thought we had already talked about stealing a full bunk bed rather than just a bowl if you’re going to steal something.” Jason said, “Oh, chili stealing is something we do,” as he turned to face the individual. “I know,” the person smiled as the words “I do it too” spilled out of rain mouth. “But the bowl costs more,” Ky grinned, seemingly unaware that his hair had suddenly turned purple-flaming. “Plus, it’ll make the Apollo kids mad when they figure it out.” “Your hairs are on fire again, Ky,” smiled Jason. “Well, it’s okay; it doesn’t really burn anything unless I want it to or my emotions get out of control.” Ky shrugged and made his hair go back to normal. “It’s cool.” A grin had begun to appear on Jason’s face. Ky said, “I think we should get to the camp meeting thing,” and then threw the gold bowl into a bush. Jason gave a nod of agreement. “Ya, we probably should.”. Ky started racing toward the location he thought the camp gathering would be. Jason walked behind Ky, but not very fast. Ky stumbled while jogging and fell into a rose bush, saying, “Ow.” “Stupid!” Jason shouted. “Can I maybe have some help?” Ky’s voice sounded strained, most likely due to his discomfort from the rose bush’s thorns. Nova sighed, “You have to be an idiot to fall like that,” as she came up to Ky and Jason. “Come on, or we might be late,” she said as she chuckled and extended her hand to assist Ky in getting out of the rose bush. Ky took Nova’s hand. “Thanks” . “Your welcome, dunce,” Nova said with a smirk. Ky laughed at the last word of Nova’s statement. Nova gave a headshake. Jason said, “I would have let him suffer,” as he saw the interaction. “Would you like to take my place in the rose bush in that case, then, Jason?” Ky said, narrowing his eyes. Jason gave a shrug. “Sure, why not?” Jason leaped into the rose bush after that. “I wasn’t being literal! Well, mostly,” Ky hurried to assist Jason in getting out of the rose bush. “You two really are foolish people. Please move quickly now.” Nova shook her head at Jason and Ky, laughing. “I’d prefer not to be late.” Jason grinned and gently nudged Ky. “It didn’t even hurt.” . As Nova laughed, “Oh yeah, of course,” tears started to well up in her eyes. “Who stated I would be late? I can still run, so. the last one there is a rotten egg!” Ky laughed and ran off. Jason snorted and simply blended in with the shadows that quickly materialized at the meeting spot. A little while later, Nova arrived, panting “I hate the both of you” behind Ky.

Ky was hardly out of breath as he said, “Hey, I didn’t cheat by using powers; I just go running a lot.” “Since they cheated, this is true, so really Jason would be the rotten egg,” Nova chuckled, recognizing the slender logic in the situation. “Now let’s see what this meeting thing is about,” Ky said, turning to face Chiron. “Hey, you never said no powers, Ky,” Jason said before looking at Chiron, the camp activity director, who walked out. Mr. D, who was the god Dionysus, was walking out not that far behind him before saying in a booming voice, “WELCOME CAMPERS! I AM DIONYSUS! BUT YOU MAY CALL ME, Mr. D!” Ky jumped slightly, clearly being slightly spooked by Mr. D’s booming voice.

–Jason looked up from their food. Nova smiled, her eyes looking over the structure. “My bad, I’m into building structures, and just look at everyone they look… It’s been a long time since I’ve seen people this way.” Another person who had just arrived at camp entered the dining pavilion, sitting down at one of the benches away from everyone else. “Ugh, I hate the way we all have to pack in here like this.”. Jason took a quick look at their meal before getting up and walking away, giving the nymphs time to tidy up the place where they had been sitting. As the newcomer hurried over to get breakfast, they swiftly went back to their location, away from everyone. After grabbing her own breakfast, Nova took a seat at the Nyx table. Jason walked away from everyone, isolating himself and allowing them to take a breather. Ky noticed Jason walking away from the dining pavilion, however, and ran after them. “Jason! Wait up!”. Jason froze as they heard their names being called, hitting their wrists together before turning around. “Where are you headed?” Ky tilted her head to the side curiously while looking at Jason. “Away from people,” Jason grumbled. “Oh… Sorry for following you then.” Ky turned around, slightly disappointed, and walked back towards the dining pavilion. The unknown person keeping to themself walked past the Aphrodite table, saying, “What a bunch of losers” on his way out of the dining pavilion. Ky had begun eating some toast. Jason looked back before disappearing. Nova finished her meal before leaving the dining pavilion. Jason had arrived back at the Hades Cabin. Nova had also decided to head back to her own cabin, the door creaking as she entered. Jason had fallen asleep not even a minute after he had arrived back at the Hades Cabin.

Before their half-siblings started barging into the Apollo cabin, the mystery person entered and began stuffing their belongings inside their chests. After completing his meal, Ky decided to explore and soon arrived at the Apollo Cabin, thinking, “Oh, cool.” Their half siblings were starting to cram themselves into the Hades Cabin and making a lot of noise, but Jason was still asleep. In order to give herself time to comprehend everything that had happened over the past several hours, Nova had made the decision to stay in her cabin if at all possible. However, she quickly nodded off as she lost herself in contemplation and stared up at the stars on the cabin’s ceiling. A conch suddenly went off, announcing that there would be a camp meeting. The booming sound of the conch startled Nova when she woke up. “Huh?” Ky said as he left the Apollo Cabin. With a groan, Nova left the Nyx cabin and wandered away. “What’s going on, Ky?” she asked as she watched Ky leave the Apollo Cabin. “Ky, what’re you doing in the Apollo Cabin, dude?” was the question Jason asked him as he left the Hades Cabin. “Yeah, that too,” Nova said, glancing from Jason to Ky and back again. With a smile on his face, Ky said, “I was exploring.” He then reached behind his back and produced a gold bowl, saying, “I was also taking this, Oh! And I believe that a camp meeting has been called.” The person from the previous archery range approached abruptly and said,-

–sounding a little uncertain. Suddenly another kid appeared calmly, slipping into Jason and the girl’s conversation. “Capture the flag, you say? What cabins are leading the teams this time?”. “Uh, no clue,” said Jason, turning to face rain “I think I overheard on my way here that it may be Hades and Aphrodite cabins, but I may be wrong,” Ky said as he emerged from the treeline around the archery grounds.

“Bet,” Jason said, a slight grin on their face. “Hopefully you’re right.” “Yeah… But hopefully, if I’m right, Hades cabin doesn’t lose because I’ll never let myself hear the end of it.” Ky scratched the back of his head, appearing to be partially lost in thought. The other person, who had butted into the conversation a few moments before, began to laugh. “What side shall I be on? I’m friends with both teams.” Ky moved to face the individual in a hurry and said, “Please join our team! I would rather not lose! If I do, my mental stability will never allow me to move on.” “Join the Aphrodite team for all I care,” Jason growled, rolling his eyes. The individual gave Ky a smile and gave him a quick pat on the head, which seemed to ease Ky’s anxiety. “Sure, sure, I’ll join you guys; we’re going to win, don’t worry,” the person said. Jason grinned and said, “Unique powers” to rain. “So I guess I might join a team; I just don’t know which team is correct.” She turned to clearly consider her options. As they said, “We have to keep in mind the older campers; we need to watch out for the Aphrodite children; some of them have charm speak; like Piper McLean, we have to watch the older campers; they are experienced, and we need to choose the cabins with the best people; we chose cabins, not people.” Jason appeared to know a little bit about the strategy for capturing the flag at Camp Halfblood. “This is correct, but I guess I’ll be on Aphrodite’s team.” I mean, they seem like a strong team, so I’ll join Piper just to make it fair for the new campers at least, or do they choose us?” She groaned, obviously feeling a little disoriented. “They chose you, or we chose you,” was Jason’s prompt response to her. “So then, I guess I’ll wait to be chosen,” she shrugged. “I’m hungry,” a rumbling in her tummy started. Jason raised his eyes to the sun. “Breakfast should be soon” . Ky looked at Jason and abruptly became alert, asking, “Food?” Jason trembled slightly and said, “Yeah, now I’m leaving. Too much social interaction.” Ky grinned and said, “All right! I’m going to talk to everyone here as well. If there’s toast or bacon for breakfast, please save it for me.” After replying, “Uh, ok,” Jason turned to go. With evident curiosity about their disparate characteristics, the Nyx girl gave the others a questioning gaze. At the sound of the morning bell, Jason started to move toward the dining pavilion. With her stomach still growling, the girl from Nyx cabin started to move towards the dining pavilion. Ky didn’t even pause when he heard the breakfast bell; he just started sprinting toward the dining tent and shouting, “Food!” The girl grinned, “Finally,” and started racing along Ky as a result. Ky noticed the girl and turned to face her. “Hello! I’m Ky , and you are. ” When they had received their meal, Jason sat at the Hades table and started to eat in silence. “Nova, and it’s nice to meet you, Ky.” She gave a small smile and slid to a halt, her eyes falling on a structure. “It’s so beautiful.” Ky came to a stop next to Nova. “What is?”-

In the Hades Cabin, one of the numerous cabins at Camp Halfblood, a short-haired blonde with blue eyes, round glasses, and freckles started putting his belongings in his chest. Demi-gods who thought attending summer camp would be enjoyable would stay at Camp Halfblood. In the Hades cabin was another child. Their skin was olive, their hair was brown, and their eyes were so brown they nearly looked black. When the blonde boy at last observed the other camper, he chose to say, “Oh, hey. I didn’t see you there.” The camper with brown hair waved but did not say anything. The blonde camper’s gaze strayed to the other camper’s packed bags after this quiet greeting, and based on what he had seen earlier, the other camper was delaying unpacking them. “Um, are you going to unpack that?” he asked. The camper with brown hair managed to say a few words, and their voice sounded cold and quiet: “Ventually.” Curious, the blonde camper said, “Um… Ok, also the names Ky Majesty and you are?” with a slightly cocked head. The camper with brown hair turned to face Ky. “Jason Ray.” Ky sneezed, his hair blazing purple fire, just as Jason’s last sound was about to escape their lips. Ky’s first words following the incident were “Oops.” “You have the fire of Hades?” Jason asked, chuckling silently for a brief period. A girl with short, long black curls, brown eyes, and dark skin went into cabin #88, also called the Nyx Cabin, in a different area of camp. She put her suitcase on one of the top bunks and started thinking about what might happen over the course of the next few days at camp.

Jason finally completed placing everything into their chest a few minutes later. Ky observed that Jason had completed unpacking and wanted to get to know them a little better. Ky’s hair had also returned to normal and wasn’t made of fire. “Hey, Jason, where might you be? My home is in London.” “Well, I’m from Phoenix, Arizona, but I’m Italian,” Jason said, glancing over at Ky. “Oh. Okay, I’m going to go outside and try to get to know some of the other campers.” Ky left the Hades cabin . Jason surveyed the Hades Cabin as soon as Ky departed, then muttered, “Gosh, people really don’t know how to decorate.” Ky had started to go about the camp in search of new campers with whom to make friends. The girl from the Nyx Cabin had begun unpacking her thing, but after a few moments of unpacking, she began to get bored of practically doing nothing, so she walked out of the cabin looking for someone to talk to or something to do. Following a brief period of being alone in the Hades Cabin, Jason made the decision to exit the cabin and make their way to the archery fields. The girl from Nyx Cabin said, “Huh, so there’s really nothing to do around here,” just before she noticed the archery grounds. “This should be fun.” When Jason, who had reached the archery fields just a second earlier, heard the girl approaching, they turned to face her and said, “There’s a reason for that.” She turned to face Jason and said, “Huh?” as a result. “You can’t really expect much on the first day of camp,” Jason shrugged as they walked towards her. “Well, something needs to happen,” the girl grumbled. “Do you know what the activities are for when everyone else gets here?” . “Capture the flag later on,” Jason remarked,
