Prologue

“Come on, Mason, nothing to fear,” William shouted.

“YES THERE IS!” Mason shouted from the shore, refusing to dive into that water this late at night without a real reason. “HAVE YOU NOT HEARD ABOUT THE SIREN SWIMMING IN THE GULF LATELY?”

“Mase, I haven’t heard of no Sirens swimming in the Gulf Of Mexico.” 

Mason groaned, reluctantly dipping one foot into the water.  

“Besides there-”

William was suddenly thrust under the water.

“WILLIAM!” 

“HAHAHA!” Will laughed as he resurfaced completely fine.

“YOU SCARED ME!” 

“Oh, calm down dude, I’m fine. Nixie, come on, be braver than your oldest brother.” William said mockingly as he glared towards a girl who looked about fourteen. 

“WHOO HOO!” Nixie shouted as she lept in, splashing water all over her brothers. 

With a deep breath, Mason plunged himself into the Gulf. 

He stayed close to the shore and wouldn’t leave. Nixie splashed around without a care and William played around, grabbing Nixie’s ankles and dragging her under playing ‘Siren attack’ as young Nixie used to call it. 

 

“Will, be careful!” Mason shouted from the shallow waters.

William, being the daredevil child of the family, swam into the deeper water. 

“WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT!” William shouted.

Clawed and slightly webbed hands grappled onto his throat, claws ripping at his neck as dark red blood spilled out.  

Yellow eyes glinted behind his head, the pupils of the eyes were wide with panic and also protectiveness. 

“WILLAIM!” Mason shrieked from where he was standing. 

William’s eyes became hazy as life slowly seeped from his body. As quickly as the clawed hands appeared, they vanished, leaving Will’s lifeless body to fall into the waters and sink to the bottom. Blood filling where he once stood.

 

Nixie screamed, dashing out of the water and back onto land where Mason was now residing.
