The Last Flight of the Yitins

August 9, 2024 (updated August 10, 2024) Published by Alice

The year was 2014, a year etched into the memories of the Yitins as the year of their downfall. The world had become a perilous place for their kind, with each passing day bringing news of another Yitin village wiped off the map. Yet, in the heart of Yitannia, the last bastion of Yitin civilization, two young Yitins prepared for a journey that would change everything.

Astraea, a Star Yitin with vibrant yellow eyes and a pair of spiraling antelope-like horns, stood at the edge of her family’s lavish estate. Her wings, large and iridescent, shimmered in the fading light of the day. She glanced back at the mansion, filled with ancient artworks and memories of a civilization that now teetered on the brink of extinction. Beside her stood Kaelen, a Sky Yitin with jet-black eyes and a pair of sharp, upward-curving horns that seemed to pierce the heavens themselves. His wings were strong, built for swift flights through the dense canopies of the treetop villages he once called home.

“Are you sure about this?” Kaelen’s voice was low, filled with the weight of their decision.

Astraea nodded, her expression resolute. “If we stay, we die like the others. If we go… there’s a chance.”

The two Yitins had overheard whispers of an ancient relic hidden deep within the earth, a relic said to have the power to protect their kind. It was a gamble, but in these dark times, it was all they had.

As night fell, they set off on their journey. Astraea’s wings carried her gracefully through the night sky, while Kaelen, more attuned to the dense forests, flitted between trees with practiced ease. They traveled in silence, each lost in thoughts of the dangers ahead and the countless lives that had already been lost.

Their path took them deep into the heart of Yitin lands, where the earth itself seemed to mourn the loss of its people. The air was thick with tension, and the cries of distant battles echoed in the wind. After days of relentless travel, they arrived at the entrance to a cavern, hidden beneath the roots of an ancient tree—a place whispered of in old Yitin legends.

Inside, the cavern was dark, the air heavy with the scent of damp earth and ancient secrets. They ventured deeper, guided only by the faint glow of Astraea’s eyes and the instinct that had kept them alive thus far. At the heart of the cavern, they found it—a relic of immense power, pulsating with an energy that seemed to resonate with the very essence of the Yitin race.

As Astraea reached out to touch the relic, a vision flashed before her eyes—a vision of Yitins living in harmony, their civilization flourishing once more. But the vision was fleeting, replaced by the harsh reality of their situation. The relic, powerful as it was, could not bring back the dead. But it could offer protection to the living.

Kaelen placed a hand on Astraea’s shoulder, his black eyes reflecting the dim light of the cavern. “We can’t change the past, but we can save the future.”

With a deep breath, Astraea activated the relic. A wave of energy surged through the cavern, spreading outwards, creating a barrier that would shield the remaining Yitins from the horrors that had befallen their kin.

But the price was steep. As the barrier formed, Astraea and Kaelen felt their strength ebbing away, their life force feeding the relic’s power. They had known this would be the cost, but it did not lessen the pain of the sacrifice.

“Remember us,” Astraea whispered, her voice barely audible as the last of her strength faded.

And then, silence.

The relic stood alone in the cavern, its power a beacon of hope for the Yitins that remained. Outside, the world continued its descent into chaos, but within the barrier, a future was born—one that would carry the memory of Astraea and Kaelen, the last protectors of the Yitins, forever.

And so, the Yitins survived, hidden from the eyes of the world, their civilization preserved by the selfless act of two young Yitins who dared to dream of a future when all seemed lost.
